Drumgrange Celebrates 45th Anniversary
Drumgrange's origins began 45 years ago today in a small, rented workshop not much bigger than a broom cupboard. After leaving the RAF, MD George Howe's journey in the commercial world started as a freelance electronics design engineer in hardware and embedded systems, developing bespoke solutions for the likes of Marconi Underwater Systems Ltd. and McMichaels.
His success led to a burgeoning order book, which required additional personnel. This started off as a 3-man band and gradually increased to 20 employees, some of whom are still associated or working in the company today. The first permanent offices were set up in Platt's Eyot, a small island on the River Thames with only a walk on bridge for access – equipment had to be transported by small boats.
Over the years, the company has grown into an SME with over 170 employees, spread across sites in Chertsey and Portland. We have managed to not only maintain our expertise and capabilities but expand upon them, growing the size and variety of projects in our portfolio and venturing into new business streams without compromising on our quality of service or products.
Today, we support over 60 active projects within the UK defence market, specialising in maritime mission systems, maritime communications, and C4ISR.
We remain an independent family-owned defence company; a unique position and one of only a few remaining within the UK.
