System Engineering, Integration, and Installation

Modern military systems are moving away from ‘stovepipe’ equipment development, to integrated systems forming network-enabled capability. System design, integration and acceptance testing expertise across various platforms are therefore core capabilities within Drumgrange.

    1. System Engineering

At Drumgrange Ltd, we take a comprehensive and structured approach to systems engineering, ensuring excellence throughout the entire engineering lifecycle. Our process is driven by a clear, well-defined set of requirements, enabling us to develop solutions that precisely meet customer needs while adhering to all relevant legislative, regulatory, and internal design standards.

Where applicable, we implement Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to enhance the development process, providing a digital representation of the system that improves clarity, collaboration, and traceability. By leveraging MBSE, we create a robust foundation for design, analysis, and documentation, reducing risks and improving efficiency.
Verification and validation (V&V) are integral to our process, ensuring that every solution meets its specified requirements. We apply structured testing, analysis, and evaluation methodologies to confirm performance, and compliance to the requirements, ensuring we deliver high-quality solutions that stand up to real-world demands.

    2. System Integration

Our system engineering teams are experts in developing and integrating equipment within an existing system/platform infrastructure, whether that is to provide new functionality or to overcome equipment obsolescence.

We produce comprehensive interface control documentation, produce signal stimulators and simulators for interface and system testing. Where necessary, we can reverse engineer interface control documentation for legacy equipment where there is limited or unreliable documentation.

    3. System Acceptance and Trials

We have extensive experience planning, managing and conducting maritime and land-based equipment trials to support new capability system testing, performance measurements, acceptance testing and user trials.

Some of the system acceptance activities we can undertake or support include:

      (a) Requirements decomposition and verification planning

      (b) Development of system acceptance test specifications and procedures

      (c) Development of documentation such as Integrated Test Evaluation and Acceptance Plans (ITEAP), verification plans and acceptance test specifications for Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Harbour Acceptance Tests (HAT), and Sea Acceptance Tests (SAT).

    4. Platform Installation
A wide variety of expertise of integrating and installing electronic equipment on military platforms and on military establishments. Our Portland facility is equipped with a large secure workshop where we undertake the integration of specialist equipment on small military vessels and vehicles.

Software Engineering

We work to rigorous defence standards for requirements analysis, traceability, design, implementation, testing, integration and documentation using structured software development methodologies and lifecycles.

Our software engineers use tools such as Doors and Enterprise Architect for requirements management and for preparing UML/SysML based design specifications. Our implementation expertise includes development for MS Windows (NT, XP, 200x, 7, 10, embedded), MS Windows Server, Linux and RTOS based platforms using C (GNU C++, Visual C++, C#, Python), TCP/IP (X.21 and X.25 Networking, Sockets), HTML, Java, Intel Performance Primitives (IPP) library and Visual BASIC.

We also specialise in the development of real time systems with embedded software and firmware implemented on microcontrollers, FPGA and DSP devices from the major manufacturers including Xilinx, Altera, Texas Instruments and Analog Devices.

We also have wide experience of networking solutions, within real time systems, including secure switch configuration and management and health monitoring using SNMP and SSH.
Cyber Security and Information Assurance are key aspects for many of our systems and we are used to working within NCSC guidelines to provide systems suitable for use in secure environments.

We work to Def Stan 05-95 for software development and is certified to ISO 9001-2015 with TickITplus for the development of software systems.

Integrated Logistics Support

Our ILS Managers are an integral part of the design and manufacturing process influencing requirements and design considerations such that our products are designed to have an optimal balance of requirements for production, integration, supportability, maintainability and whole life cost.

Our full Logistic Support Analysis (LSA) covers all aspects, including:

  1. Availability, Reliability and Maintainability (ARM)
  2. Initial Spares Provisioning
  3. Technical Publications
