SONARS:
BANSHI – New Intercept Sonar System Hybrid
Built using open architecture principles and using only COTS hardware, BANSHI provides an Intercept function for the Bow array and has been fitted to S&T class submarines. It can be configured for use with a towed array or for use within a S2076 environment.

HIDRA - Intercept Sonar System - view data sheet(pdf)
This compact integrated intercept sonar system can be configured to operate with most common transducer array topologies. The version in service in Royal Navy submarines interfaces with the intercept array, but the system is equally well suited for operation within an integrated sonar suite. A networked X-window display option is available for use within a federated display system. High levels of hardware integration allow two bands with up to 13 hydrophones each to be processed using only 3 double extended Eurocards.

LEOPARD - High Frequency Passive Sonar System - view data sheet(pdf)
In service in Royal Navy submarines, this high sensitivity, high frequency passive sonar system has particular applications for operations in littoral waters and can be interfaced with existing submarine arrays, or given new configurations to incorporate into towed arrays or towed bodies. The sonar uses a narrow-band technique that responds to the spatial structure of received sonar wavefronts. The signal processing algorithm gives full 360 degree azimuth cover and practically eliminates side-lobe ‘spokes’.

GOLDFISH - Ship Sonar Threat Detection System - view data sheet(pdf)
Providing fast, accurate updates using electronic scanning and high definition imagery this cost effective surface ship sonar system uses a new stochastic narrow-band technique to detect both passive and active underwater threats. It is extremely sensitive and yet has a very low false alarm rate and comprises; a lightweight towed body array with optional small hull mounted array, a lightweight, small footprint handling system and COTS based onboard processing system and an onboard processor and operator displays with selective warnings and command displays for torpedo countermeasures.

Sonar Array Signal Simulators
Drumgrange has supplied a range of testing and training equipment for Passive and Intercept submarine sonars 2051, 2054(I) and 2019 that simulate the array signals, control array configuration, signal and noise characteristics and the apparent location of the source in three-dimensional space.

Passive Sonar Beamformers
Drumgrange manufactured the beamformer processing equipment and implemented the firmware which produces the beam patterns for Royal Navy’s 2051 Bow Sonars.

Flank Array Beamformer & Data Logger
For DRA Portland, we designed and manufactured the in-board processing system for a sonar flank array that provides beamforming and data recording facilities, with high-speed output to external processing equipment and an aural output beam monitoring facility.

TRIALS ANALYSIS:
2054(I) Trials
Drumgrange engineers supported Defence Procurement Agency during the Sea Acceptance Trials and subsequent analysis for sonar 2054(I). Work involved fitting the PACE Intercept sonar, which in conjunction with the 2019 array provided reference results for analysis purposes.

SPAR Dual AIT Tape Deck Recorder
Drumgrange designed, manufactured and fitted a RN submarine with an ATM multi-channel recorder with dual AIT tape decks with upgrade path to 1 GB Ethernet (or analogue) data streams.

SONAR STUDIES:
Intercept Study
When DERA wanted to know the effects of signal propagation and interference on intercept sonar performance we provided analysis of large amounts of recorded data and computer models of acoustic propagation effects. We also carried out a series of studies into the use of fast Fourier transform and other advanced techniques for Intercept sonar and developed intercept contact association, fusion and tracking algorithms to assess performance and identify improvements.

Sonar 2054(I) Operability, Reporting & Trainer study
The Defence Procurement Agency’s ‘Requirement Definition’ for future sonars is based on a study by Drumgrange of the operator’s role and enhancements to the operator interface. As a result new windows display formats were introduced and validated by operators from the Royal Naval Submarine School.

Osprey Consortium
Drumgrange is a member of the Osprey Consortium undertaking research work in underwater sensing for the RAO.

MAINTENANCE:
2076 Sonar Maintenance
Drumgrange provides ongoing maintenance and support of 2076 sonars’ High Density recorders fitted in Royal Navy submarines.

Support and Advancement of Sonar Systems
Drumgrange has an enabling contract to support Royal Navy sonar systems. The programme provides platform support, including new design, installation, testing and sea trials for both surface ships and submarine systems.
