Drumgrange is delighted to announce that they have been awarded a contract to supply two MaxSim sonar array signal stimulator systems by BAE Systems Submarine Solutions.

MaxSim has been developed by Drumgrange to aid the development of sonar processors and for assisting the fault diagnosis, setting to work and commissioning of installed sonar systems; it has been used extensively for the acceptance testing of sonar systems that Drumgrange has supplied to the Royal Navy.

MaxSim is a software based stimulator using a PC that supplies fully customisable acoustic signals, in analogue or digital format, directly to the sonar processor system under test. This enables controlled testing, independent of the transducer array, to allow repeatable factory or harbour acceptance testing to be conducted prior to sea testing.  MaxSim has an intuitive user interface which allows the operator to configure the array architecture and then simulate up to five independent signals from different bearings to represent five different targets.

The two MaxSim systems purchased by BAE Systems will be used to support Sonar 2076 testing by Thales Underwater Systems Ltd on Trafalgar and Astute Class submarines.

Drumgrange Ltd with offices in Chertsey, Surrey and Portland, Dorset has commenced its 30th year in business with the award of a significant contract from the Ministry of Defence.  The contract is to provide a combined camera and mobile communications system to provide real-time video delivering significant improvements over the current capability.

Drumgrange won the contract under a competition run by Defence Equipment and Supply (DE&S).

Commenting on this award, George Howe, Managing Director of Drumgrange said “We are very delighted with this award and we look forward to building on the strong relationship developed over a number of projects that we have successfully delivered to the MoD.  This contract will allow us to draw on our many years of successful system integration.”

Colin Mead joined from QinetiQ (Platforms Division) and has 20 years experience in the Underwater Systems business.
